DESCRIPTION: Dans les Jardins Reserves du Palais" Paul Jacoulet (1896-1960, France). Jacoulet was a French, Japan-based woodblock print artist. He was known for mixing traditional ukiyo-e style and techniques he created himself. Prominent collectors of Jacoulet's work include General Douglas MacArthur, Greta Garbo, Pope Pius XII, and Queen Elizabeth II. Signed to lower right with artist stamp below signature. Framed and matted in modern black frame. PROVENANCE: The print was originally given to General Douglas MacArthur when he served in Japan during WWII. General MacArthur's son Arthur MacArthur and the consignor's brother met at Columbia University when they were students. Arthur gifted the print to the consignor's brother, who then gave it to the consignor as a wedding gift. MEASUREMENTS: 15-1/4" high x 11-5/8" wide; 2-1/2" mat and frame. CONDITION: Laid down.
