Description
Beautiful large vintage reverse paint and chipped glass sign on beveled plate glass for First National Bank Safe Deposit Boxes For Rent. Made by the Rawson & Evans Sign Co. of Chicago. The glass measures about 29" wide, 34" tall. It is backed with 1" wood with a 1" wide half round metal over wood frame. The left side of the half round frame is missing. The lettering is gold outlined gold backed chipped glass on a black background. Overall condition is excellent with no cracks or paint deterioration. The Rawson & Evans Sign Company was established by Charles L. Rawson and Samuel Evans in 1890 and located at 153 W. Washington St. Chicago, IL. Rawson & Evans was most known for their style of chipped, ground, enameled, and embossed gold / silver leaf, reverse-painted, elaborate and beautiful ornamental glass signs. Examples of their work is among the most sought after signage ever made. Many industries across the country took a liking to the signs that Rawson and Evans were producing and decided to hire them to produce signs both for their companies as well as products. Industries like soda, tobacco / cigars makers, general store, bars, drug stores, pharmacies, banks, whiskey distillers, breweries, and textile manufacturers, all had a vested interest in Rawson & Evans signs.
