"Our Pets", by Edmond Castan, genuine antique steel engraving by Thomas Brown. Engraved artist's signature in plate "Edmond Castan 1868." The steel plate was engraved by Brown and first published in the British "The Art Journal" in 1871. Our print is a re-usage of the original 1871' steel plate by the American publisher, Hess in 1888. High quality heavy woven paper.

The entire plate including margins is 9.1/4" x 12.1/4" [235mm x 310mm]; the design 7.3/8" x 9.1/2" [190mm x 244mm]; a little aging, very good condition.

Pierre-Jean-Edmond Castan (1817-1883) French painter; pupil of Drolling and Gerard. Exhibited his paintings at the Paris Salon 1844-1882.

Thomas Brown (active 1867-1887), British engraver, illustrator of Walter Scott, worked for 'The Art Journal' (1871-87).
