Description
The AN XIII is the quintessential cavalry pistol of the French during the Napoleonic Wars, with this example having a desirable pre-Waterloo date. Standard configuration with rounded barrel and slightly flattened short sighting plane, "R" and "C" proofs on barrel, 1811 date offset over breech, tang with "MLE an 13". Lock with softened "Mle imp / de St. Etienne" with "(Crown) / J" proof, reinforced cock (topjaw and screw replaced), bridled brass pan. Brass strap with visible seam at top, Brass trigger guard with iron tang. Brass buttcap. Numerous other proofs observed scattered about. CONDITION: Overall good. Barrel is a fairly even mixture of dove grey and chocolate patina, tipping towards patina, with some scattered peppering. Lock is very good, easily readable legends, with some peppering and oxidation. Stock is good with a significant (approximately 3") gouge on left side of wrist and other assorted handling marks and age distress including some chipping at sideplate.
