This is an antique 19th century framed pictorial napkin from the famed Adelphi Hotel in Saratoga Springs, NY. The napkin features a depiction of the hotel and its location alongside Congress Park. The lot also includes a glass brown glass Hathorn Spring water bottle. Long known to Native Americans, the springs of Saratoga gained notoriety in the latter decades of the 19th century as a spa retreat destination and later, for the naturally carbonated drinking water. Originally bottled as a tincture, the mineral water soon became a popular additive to mixed drinks. Many of the springs in Saratoga were tapped to be bottled and sold, a practice which created a booming niche business in the area. Each company had their own beautiful glass bottles with fine decoration and labels.
The frame is 25 1/4 x 24 3/8" and the mat sight is 17 3/4 x 16 5/8".
