Originally aspiring to work as a museum curator, Christian Lacroix ended up excavating art from within. 1987 marked the opening of his French couturier, distinct in its birds-of-paradise jewel tones and youthful take on the baroque. So reminiscent of Emilio Pucci is Lacroix's decadence that the latter worked as creative director of Pucci from 2002 to 2005. Prolific in both scope and range, the career of Lacroix reveals a theatrical sensibility; his name is associated with the pouf skirt and has costumed the likes of both opera and dance.
