Description
A gold tone and simulated black leather belt, composed of a series of overlapping circular links, joined to a black simulated leather strap, the oversized rectangular buckle of polished gold dome motifs, overall length 34 inches, adjustable with two belt holes, circa 1960s.
Trained as an architect and mothered by Balenciaga's head seamstress, Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo used his construction brilliance to ideate accessory designs for acclaimed Parisian couturiers including Dior and Givenchy until founding his own clothing brand, Paco Rabanne, in 1966. Specializing in non-fabric materials, Rabanne mirrored the hardware elements of handbags and jewelry in full garments made from plastic, aluminum, and his iconic chainmail, at times even paper. The metallic and synthetic, chunky and grunge, unconventional and armor-like originate in Paco Rabanne, coining him the title of "L'Enfant Terrible." Paco Rabanne's arsenal of Amazons, including Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, and Audrey Hepburn, bolstered the legacy of what continues to blaze in fashion history as the house of the warrior woman.
