Four Hester Bateman Sterling Silver Cauldron Salt Cellars

hallmarked London, 1769-1782, of traditional form, each with three stepped pad feet, one with gilt interior and later repousse decoration and the crest of a moor's head.

**In fair condition with some bumps and dents, particularly on one of the shorter cellars, which has compression dents around each of the legs where they meet the body, and some ripples where a dent has been hammered out on the body. Each hallmarked on the underside (date letters "O" = 1769/70; "T" = 1774/75; "b" = 1777/78 and "f" = 1781/82); most rubbed but legible with the exception of the earliest, on which only the date letter and London crowned leopard's head are legible. (The Bateman attribution is made based upon its date and similarity to the others.)
