For your consideration we present, Tarahumara People - bronze relief by Russell "Rusty" Bowers. This relief features a scene of daily life with a young man holding a lance as the primary focus. The title on the front of the relief in the lower left corner is "The Lancebearer". Besides being an artist, Russell Bowers is the Arizona Speaker of the House. As a young man, Bowers served his LDS mission in the region. Upon his return he got his Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Fine Arts at BYU. The Tarahumara are inhabitants of Copper Canyon, otherwise known as the Sierra Tarahumara in northwest Mexico. The actual name Tarahumara was what the first Spanish called these Native American people when first encountered in the 1500â€™s in Chihuahua. Today, they are Mexicoâ€™s second largest native Indian group with between 50,000 â€“ 70,000 people. MAKER: Hallmarked Bowers 02 (etched in original mold). Russell "Rusty" Bowers (1952- ).
