Description
1899 Through the Looking Glass Lewis Carroll Alice in Wonderland Blanche McManus
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!”
― Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking-Glass
A rare, scarcely printed edition of Lewis Carrolls famous work accompanied by the wonderful color artwork of the esteemed Blanche McManus!
Through the Looking Glass was published a few years after the success of Adventures in Wonderland. While it was never as popular as Adventures in Wonderland it did include “…the greatest nonsense poem ever written in the English language,” entitled the “Jabberwocky” (Gardner). It was in this poem that Carroll created playfully obscure words that have become recognizable in English such as “galumphing” and “chortle.”
