Description
1879 Dante Divine Comedy Wadsworth Longfellow English Divina Commedia 2v
“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”
― Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy
Dantes “Divine Comedy” is one of the most important and long-lasting works for literature. In the eleventh Canto, Dante recounts the life of St. Francis of Assisi – part of Dantes meeting great souls of philosophers and theologians. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, notable American poet, was responsible for translating the first American edition of Dante.
This English translation was so profound and important, that even subsequent foreign editions used Wadsworth Longfellows English. This Boston edition was published by Riverside Press in 1879 as part of the complete works of Longfellow.
