Description
1875 Joan of Arc by Lescure Jeanne Darc France Flameng ART BINDING 100 Years WAR
At the end of the 18th-century, the story of Joan of Arc was merely a legend and little was written in histories about her life. Following the successes of Jules Quicherats history of Joan of Arc, numerous other accounts of the famed heroine emerged, including Adolphe de Lescures “Jeanne Darc”. Lescures account of Joan of Arc offers significant historical context to the Siege of Orleans, the Hundred Years War, and the reign of French king Charles VII.
However, while other works on Joan of Arc offer similar histories, Lescures work is notable for the exquisite full-page engravings of the art of Leopold Flameng which depict scenes from Joan of Arcs heroic life.
This absolutely beautiful 1875 edition features an exquisite binding with gold-gilt page edges. A stunning display piece!
