Description
Gouache & watercolor mounted on board. Signed lower left. Titled 'Sorrento'. Dimensions: 11" x 8 1/4". Matted & framed under glass. Few Rhode Island artist enjoyed the popularity & patronage that Dyer (1872-1943) had during his lifetime that continues to the present day. A graduate of both Brown & RISD, Dyer embraced the "Old style English method of watercolor painting" which he then adapted using both gouache and transparent washes on gray/earth toned watercolor sheets. The artist considered this technique paramount to his successful watercolors. Nearly annnual sojourns to Europe, especially Italy, afforded Dyer vistas for an American audience hungry for European scenes.
