VINTAGE STAFFORDSHIRE STYLE DOGS

Vintage and highly collectible, these petite porcelain sitehounds would make a handsome addition to any bookcase or mantle. ABOUT: Staffordshire ceramic dogs are among the most coveted collectorsÍ items on the auction market. Also known as hearth spaniels or fireplace dogs, Wally dugs in Scotland, these whimsical (and well-behaved!) decorative objects were habitually placed on mantelpieces in Victorian and Edwardian homes. DETAILS: This pair is notable for the dogsÍ expressive features, detailed eyes, pert noses and whiskers, as well as for their separately molded legs. They are red fawn greyhounds or whippets with black face markings and collars, standing guard atop pedestals of green grass with red-brown accents, hand-painted on white porcelain with gold trim.
