A damaged handwritten paper note pasted to the center underside of the woven seat reads:
This chair was made by [Tho.] Flint, his daughter married --- Jeremiah Eaton (my great grandfather [born] Apr. 1737 whose son Osgood Eaton my grandfather born Jan. 7 1770 whose son Osgood Eaton was my father born [Reading, Mass] Feb. 2 1799. Mist. William Reed Eaton
We are descendants of ------- ------ who came from Staples in County of Kent, Eng. in the year 1625[?].
