A FINE LACQUERED QIANLONG MARK SNUFF BOTTLE
Japanese, late 19th-early 20th century. A hefty, rounded cylindrical vessel decorated in rouge and faux tortoiseshell lacquer. The original domed stopper fitted to a screw fastening neck and shoulders of graduating spirals on red ground. The body of the bottle depicting travelers in a landscape, likely "in pursuit of peach" and under vast pines. The underside of the bottle inscribed with apocryphal Qianlong seal reign mark, but created late in the Meiji era by Japanese artisans; collectors label #6374 extant.
