The Adjutant from the East Indies [Sunda Marabu].
Watercolor and pen on wove paper.
Inscribed ‘The Adjutant from the East Indies’.
The verso of the left edge retains a tab indicating it was originally bound as part of a larger work.
10 5/8" x 8" sheet.
The Sunda Marabu, called Little Adjutant, is a tropical bird that inhabits coastal mangroves, salt marshes and flood plains on lakes in Asia from southern China to India and Java.
This drawing was likely executed by a Muslim or Hindu artist with an English patron.
Condition: Minor vertical crease.
