Inscribed in Urdu: upper right and center.
Lucknow, India c. 1775-1785.
11" x 18" sheet.
Provenance: Major General Claude Martin (1735-1800); Niall Hobhouse Collection Sale, Christie’s May 22, 2008.
The jungle bush-quail is found on dry grass and scrub jungle, and occurs only in the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka. The male is depicted with striped (or barred) underparts, while the female displays buff underparts.
