A Pair of Skyscraper Bookcases

Property from the Collection of Kirk Spelman, Duxbury, Massachusetts

The bookcases were commissioned as replicas of the Battle Creek Tower in Battle Creek, Michigan by Everett Carr Spelman, Sr. in the early 1930s. Spelman, the consignor's grandfather, worked for Holabird & Root, the architects for the building. He was superintendent of construction and the building's supervisor. A framed photo of the tower accompanies the bookcases.

Condition

In good and stable condition. One: with light fading to top front panel (or tape residue), light scuffs to surface, a two inch scratch to left side and a three inch scuff to left side, a piece of felt attached to upper back. The other: having light scuffs, a few small scratches, felt attached to upper back, some tiny flecks of paint to right side. Some of the brackets securing the shelves are newer replacements.
