Description
Carved wooden mask with painted features, signs of ritual use. Newari peoples, Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. The mask dates to the 1950-60's. The "Lakhe" dance is one of the most popular dances of Nepal. This once feared demon became protector of the people and is venerated by dances and sacrificial offerings. The mask measures 12 x 12 inches, woven cushion and ropes are still evident. A metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: A Private Mid-West collection since the 1960s.
