9th-8th century B.C. A slender chalcedony cylinder seal bearing an incuse frieze presenting a figural scene showing a statue of the goddess Ishtar standing on a platform within a canopied enclosure; Ishtar identified by crossed quivers, a starred crown, and stars encircling her body; two winged genies protect the enclosure, while a kneeling figure worships before her; drilled vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression. Cf. The Metropolitan Museum, accession number 1989.361.1, for similar. 7.21 grams, 32 mm (1 1/4 in.). Acquired in the 1980s-1990s. Previously with Mansour Gallery, London W1.
