Description
Battle Club, Sulka, New Britain Island, 19th/20th C. The pointed conical finial forming each end of this club presents an elegant and lethal form of weapon traditionally employed by the Sulka people. The example has a darkened patina from years of exposure to smoking fires inside the men’s house. Some chipping to the flange. The lighter color below one finial indicates years of a wrapped layered that has been lost. From the collection of Joseph Salamanca. Size: 48'' x 4'' x 4'' (122 x 10 x 10 cm).
