The legendary ?King of Country Music,? Roy Acuff is credited with bringing the genre of music from ?hoedown? to ?singer-based format? and was the leading personality at the Grand Ole Opry until his passing in 1992. Acuff was a singer and a fiddler and over the course of his career became royalty in the circle of the country music industry. He first rose to fame in 1938 with an appearance at Grand Ole Opry and later catapulted to the top of his field with mega-radio-station WSM Radio. His hits like ?Wreck on the Highway? and ?Fireball Mail? put him in demand. He is single-handedly credited with bringing star quality to the Grand Ole Opry. In the 1940s Roy Acuff?s popularity rivaled that of Frank Sinatra. His booming country tenor voice regaled listeners with such all time favorites as ?The Great Speckled Bird,? (1936), his first and one of his biggest hits and ?Wabash Cannoball? (1936) featuring his train-whistle imitation. This train whistle being offered was personally owned used by the legendary icon at the Grand Ole Opry and is accompanied by a COA. One can only imagine the delight of the audience at the Grand Ole Opry when the country music icon played this train whistle while performing one of his many hits.
