74. FRENCH BISQUE AUTOMATON “TROUBADOUR WITH GUITAR”. 13 ½”. Standing upon a wooden platform with molded and decorated green and gilt finished stand is a bisque head gentleman by Bru with almond-shaped inset blue paperweight eyes, painted lashes, dark eye shadow, feathered brows, closed mouth, pierced ears, brown mohair wig, carton torso and legs, wooden forearms, wears original silk troubadour costume with cape, leggings, silk shoes with rosettes, holding a guitar; when wound he turns his head side-to-side as the music plays, hand holding guitar moves slightly, opposite arm is disconnected and non-moving. Commentary: Attributed to Phailibois, circa 1880s, lovely Bru portrait face, original costume which has wear to the arms; music very good; movement partially operating.
