A George IV Scottish sterling silver three-piece tea service, Edinburgh 1824 by Charles Bendy
Comprising a teapot, a milk jug and a twin handled sugar bowl. Each of compressed circular form upon a spreading circular foot, the curved spout opposite an acanthus leaf capped C scroll handle fitted with ivory insulators pinned to sockets. The hinged domed lid surmounted by a ‘cauliflower’ form finial. Each with a C scroll and rocaille cartouche to each side and a scallop shell and foliate scroll cast and applied rim. A cartouche to each engraved with a crest of a dolphin naiant below the motto avise la fin, and above initials W.K in cursive script. The teapot engraved to the other cartouche with a crest of a dove holding in its beak an olive-branch, below the motto spero. The milk and sugar with gilt interiors. Each fully marked, the teapot lid unmarked, the milk jug additionally marked WC(?) perhaps for William Constable of Dundee. (3)
