Original Photo by M.C. Mayberry of Chatanooga, Tennessee captioned "Anti-Evolutionists, John T. Scopes Trial, Dayton, Tenn. July 10, 1925" (the trial concluded July 21st), actually 43" long, containing hundreds of people, captioned figures include "W.J. Bryan (politician who was counsel to the prosecution, died shortly after trial); "W.J. Bryan, Jr."; "Hicks, Pros. Atty.";" Judge and Mrs Raulston" (hardly unbiased!); "R. Don Lewis (Yellow Jacket)"; "Atty Genl McKenzie"; "Prosecutor W White"; "Butler Author of Anti-Evolution Bill" and "Thomas S. Nelson, Zion City". The banner in the background says "Read Your Bible". High School Teacher John Scopes was tried for teaching evolution, fined $100, with an injunction against such heresy.This photo was taken on the first day of the trial, July 21st, does not include defendant's counsel Clarence Darrow, who arrived the next day. It concluded on July 21st. On Sunday, July 26, 1925, Bryan died in his sleep from apoplexy after attending a church service in Dayton.9" x 43"overall, tears.
