Description
This is a vintage Primitive Native Canadian Figurine.
It shows a face of native man with and eagle on top of it.
The sculpture shows the connection between man and the nature.
It is signed on the bottom but I cannot read it.
I've seen figures like this one are made by Canadian Iroquois people. Iroquois sculpture usually reflects the mythology, culture & histories of the ‘People of the Longhouses’. Figurative works are often meant to celebrate the guardians of the harvest or what is referred to as the ‘Three Sisters’. Wildlife sculpture is often paying homage to Clan affiliations and other cultural beliefs. Noted for the superior workmanship and attention to detail, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Art is highly regarded within the First Nations art world.
The figurine is made from orange stone and is very beautiful.
The carving is app. 6 1/2" tall.
It is in good vintage condition
