Description
R-18 French Napoleonic recruiting poster. Issued by the Count De Gavre and dated November 29, 1811, announcing the formation of the regiment Des Flanqueurs De La Garde Imperiale. Jagers to act as flankers and sons or nephews of foresters were being solicited to join by 20 December 1811. This poster represents the building up of forces for Napoleon's ill-fated 1812 invasion of Russia. (A history of the Guard can be found in "The Anatomy of Glory" by Henry Lachouque). Size 20 1/2" x 16". Some folds and light stains. Framed. (Provenance-Butterfields 10/15/96). II
