Description
R-4 18th century mameluke type short sword. One-piece iron grip with a curved rounded pommel, turned in quillions to form an open circle and reverse "D" knuckle-bow with the top turned downward not touching the pommel. Three perforations at the bottom center of the crossguard. 20 5/8" curved blade has a 6 1/2" top cutting edge like a Turkish kilij. Partial back-to-back circles are visible on the blade. Overall in preserved relic condition. The source claims that this sword came from the Barbary Coast and was captured by U.S. Marines during the late 18th century. III
