Description
Rare Ty Cobb Signed Letter written and signed on Tigers Letterhead Stationary. The first member of the exclusive 4,000 Hit Club has left his mark on baseball. Ty Cobb, or "The Georgia Peach," is unquestionably one of the top ten players of all time, and certainly near the top of that list. Setting ninety major league records while he played, many of these remain intact, including highest lifetime batting average (.367) and most career batting titles with twelve. Cobb was legendary for his aggressive playing style and penchant for fighting. Spending most of his career in the outfield, Cobb helped the Tigers win three American League pennants from 1907-09 and served as player-manager of the Tigers from 1921-1926. In 1936, the first balloting was held for election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Cobb received the most votes of the five electees. “The greatness of Ty Cobb was something that had to be seen, and to see him was to remember him forever,” said fellow Hall of Famer George Sisler. Ty Cobb passed away on July 17, 1961.
