Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A unique redware cup presenting a flared foot and an openwork leg adorned with a horizontal ring of 12 outward-facing avian animals. A trio of pillars rise from the band of birds to support a hemispherical bowl with a slightly inward-curving rim. Size: 3.6" Diameter x 3.6" H (9.1 cm x 9.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
