Regency period Spode Porcelain ice pails, circa 1820 or later, with covers and liners intact, in the Spode form No. 11, model 1926, of Campagna form with pulls and handles in romantic rustic twig form, the covers and liners parcel gilded, and the pails parcel gilded and hand-painted with images of English landscapes and landmarks, the bottom of one pail inscribed in puce: "St. Briavel's Castle, Gloucestershire / Spode" and "Hillingdon House, Middlesex / 1926" the other inscribed: "Lillyshall Abbey / Spode" and "Cottage at Battersea / 1926." 10.75" H overall x 9" W (handle to handle). Note: The model of this Spode Ice pail is noted on page 80 of the 1820 Spode shape book, and is called the "Flower Embossed Ice Pail" due to its very low relief embossing in the porcelain around the handles, and across the frieze. The model was also adapted without embossing to the frieze when extensive hand-decoration was involved, as in this lot. A later (1825-1830) pair of the same model but with ornithological scenes was sold at Bonhams, London, Knightsbridge,17 May 2017, lot 362.
