Description
Walter Mootzka (Hopi, 1910 - 1940) A Navajo Memory Aid Watercolor on paper, with pencil signature lower right Walter Mootska, framed. "Mootzka had no formal art training. He often observed Fred Kaboti painting at Oraibi Day School, and it may have been there that he learned the technique of watercolor painting. ... Mootzka was especially noted for his representations of tribal ceremonies and mythological scenes. Using a full palette, he demonstrated a great feeling for color. Also notable was his fine attention to detail," Lester, Patrick D. The Biographical Directory of Native American Painters, Sir Publications, Tulsa 1995, p. 371. Dimensions: 32 x 26 inches framed
