Description

A BIEDERMEIER BONE "SELENUS" CHESS SET, Central European, early/mid 19th century, one side stained nut brown, the other side left natural, kings with double pierced galleries and feather finials, queens with single galleries and feather finials, bishops with urn shaped finials and petalled crowns, knights as horses' heads, rooks as slender turrets raised on baluster knops, pawns with baluster knops over circular bases and small spiked finials, the king 12cm high, the pawn 5cm high.
