Willis Hakim Jones, Jr. (GA, b. 1953), Carved Cane with Figure and Snake, signed and inscribed 'To John D., W. Hakim J. SAV.' on back of figure, the unvarnished wood cane carved with snake and figure.Willis Hakim Jones, Jr., a native of Savannah, GA, was introduced to woodcarving at a young age, playing with carved wooden ships his father made while he was at sea. Jones worked for a peroid of time making furniture for a local decorative artist. His carvings draw inspiration from the Savannah tradition of walking sticks, but feature more abstract motifs and imbelishments such as diamonds, spirals, checkerboards, and chain links. Jone's walking sticks were featured in an exhibition at the Telfair Museum of Art from 1998-1999 titled 'Masters of the Walking Stick'.
