Description
A William IV brass inlaid mahogany tall case eight day clock
W. Garner, Chester
second quarter 19th century

The broken-arched dial with Arabic chapters, subsidiary seconds dial and terrestrial calendar, inscribed W. Garner/Chester, the spandrels painted with seated chinoiserie figures, the arch with lunar calendar over rolling moon. painted with a ship and ruin, above terrestrial hemispheres, the twin train movement, with false-plate cast WILKES & SON.
height 98in (248cm); width 22in (56cm); depth 9 1/2in (24cm)

Condition
Structurally sound. General marks, nicks, scratches, shrinkage cracking, rubbing and wear. Lifting to inlay in areas. Scattered losses to timber, Repairs to crest notably to central element of cornice under eagle finial. Cracks and replacements to moldings. Shrinkage cracking to sides of case. Notable wear to feet and base. Rubbing and toning to mounts. Dial with crazing and chipped losses notably to edges. Areas of touch up. With weights and pendulum. Lacking bell. Working condition is unknown and not guaranteed.
