Description
LEONARD JANKLOW (American. 1919-2006) ABSTRACT SCULPTURE Signed, Reg # 485/452. Titled: "Cracked Sculpture 1];

size: 50.5 x 20 x 10; ASKart: Janklow's dimensional constructions are intended to impel the spectator to reflect on reality and trigger the viewers' imaginations as he momentarily controls their "mind's eye" with illogical and mysterious illusions and exciting retinal sensations. As the spectator becomes involved with repeated viewing at different angles, the artist's techniques and materials become obvious; he has no secrets. Janklow is foremost a colorist. The coloring from his palette is done to elevate the viewer's emotions to a visible smile and a feeling of well-being. Added to the colors are old-fashioned band craftsmanship and sophisticated industrial materials to create new advances in kinetic art.From a very large family of talented people, Len Janklow discovered art extremely early in life. Crayons, watercolors and modeling clay were the toys of his childhood. His ability to draw and his love of art came to the attention of a teacher, the late Leon Friend, and the Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, NY.Janklow's art education was at the Art Students' League and New School for Social Research in New York, and at evening sessions at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Over the years he became known for his kinetic and illusionary constructions. His work is represented in collections and galleries on five continents, and has been selected for several major commissions. Among those works are the atrium sculptures for Carnival Cruise Lines' sister ships M/S Ecstasy and M/S Imagination. Each sculpture rises 24 feet in the center of a six-deck atrium; the Ecstasy sculpture weighs 10 tons, while the sculpture for the Imagination is 7-1/2 tons.
