TEXTILES: Two Quilts: the first is an appliqued cotton quilt, c. 1850-1875, in a color scheme of red and green on white, with a design of nine Rose of Sharon blocks, surrounded by a flowering vine border, (See Barbara Brackman, Encyclopedia of Appliqué, p. 77, pattern 17.34 for a very similar design), chrome orange calicos are also used in the flowers, the binding is plain red cotton on the straight grain, the batting is thin and the quilting is minimal, the backing is plain white cotton, in fair to good condition, yellowed and faded, scattered brown stains, but not obtrusive, 97" h x 81" w (Old card reads "Rose of Sharon pattern with border / Mrs. L. M . Tennings 13 Williams Street Stratford, Connecticut."); The second is an Irish chain quilt with swag border, red and white.
