PROVENANCE
Private Collection, Peoria, Arizona
Carson Thomas is a second-generation saddle maker who in the 1970’s also began making half-scale saddles to visually chronicle the Western saddle’s evolution. This model is based on a style that was popular west of the Rockies from the late 1880s to 1900. Visalia saddles are often fully carved or stamped. The influence comes from the California vaqueros (Mexican cowboys) who elaborately decorated their saddles.
