For decades, Paul Rogers Harris was influential in the Dallas art scene as a curator, educator, and artist. Having graduated from the University of North Texas with a major in art and a minor in education, Harris was a strong advocate for art education, starting his career as a teacher in Fort Worth, Texas before moving to Dallas where he continued teaching and also became the art director of the Dallas Independent School District’s television program KERA-TV. Additionally, he established the Children’s House at the Dallas Museum of Contemporary Arts before moving to New York, NY, both enrolling at New York University and working at The Museum of Modern Art until 1970 when he moved back to Dallas, becoming head of the Department of Art Education at Southern Methodist University. After four years at the university, Harris was director of the Art Center in Waco, TX before becoming an independent curator, establishing Paul Rogers Harris Exhibitions in 1988. Harris oversaw exhibitions in the Dallas area for decades, bringing attention to many artists and their works.
