Mountains in the Morning, 1941, lithograph, 11 1/2 x 15 3/4, signed across bottom: Mountains in the Morning, Delmar Pachl, 1941, Pachl was a native of Springfield, Missouri. During the Depression he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1936 he was awarded a working scholarship at the Kansas City Art Institute. Pachl was an assistant to Thomas Hart Benton for mural projects in Jefferson City, Missouri. In 1939, Pachl was hired to teach at North Texas Junior Agricultural College in Arlington. Pachl joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He drew cartoons for Yank magazine and the 96th Division newspaper. He was killed in action on Leyte Island, Philippines in October, 1944. In 1949, Arlington State College (now UTA) named a dormitory Pachl Hall in honor of his service to his country. His wife was artist Margaret Pachl. Sources: Roper; Falk; Mallett; Powers.
