Description
Featured in this lot is this Navajo Crystal Trading Post Churro Wool Storm pattern rug, circa 1950s-1960s. The Churro breed of sheep was introduced into the Rio Grande Valley by the Spaniards in the 17th century. The lustrous fibers of Churro Wool are long and straight with a very low lanolin content, means very clean wool (not a lot of water or time used to clean it) making them ideal for the limited hand methods of Navajo weaving. The rug shows a very soft high-quality churro 100% wool tightly woven rug in all-natural mineral dyes. The piece has a very unique Crystal Storm pattern with bold red, black and white designs against a grey background and brown trimmed edging ending in corner tassels. Rug is in good overall condition, no marring noted. Measures 19"W x 27"L
