Description
PELAYO ORTEGA (Mieres, Asturias, 1956).
"Moonlight", 2020.
Oil on canvas.
Signed, dated and titled on the back.
Size: 175 x 175 cm.
Trained at the Gijón Fine Arts Association and at the School of Arts and Crafts in Oviedo, extending his studies at the Fine Arts Circle in Madrid. His first exhibitions took place in the Atalaya Gallery and the Tassili Gallery, taking recurrence in them, as well as in other national galleries, until he became a regular artist in the International Fair ARCO Madrid. His success led him to exhibit at the Marlborough Gallery in New York, with whom he signed an exclusive contract in 1998.
With more than forty-five years of career, he describes the central theme of his compositions as "the essence itself", where the creative work responds fundamentally to the idiosyncrasy of art itself. Ortega's most recent abstractions have been created with acrylics, oils, pastels and charcoal on canvas and paper.
His work can be found in collections such as the Masaveu Collection in Oviedo, the Coca-Cola Collection, the Ifema Collection, the Hispano-Central Collection in Madrid, the Government of the Principality of Asturias Collection, the Reina SofÃa Museum, the Fine Arts Museum in Santander, and the Jovellanos Museum in Gijón, among many others.
