Description
Unique silver-plated bronze, working prototype model of a breech-loading cannon engraved NATHAN THOMPSON, MARINE ENGINEER, BROOKLYN NY 1872 on top of barrel. This rolling-breech cannon was presented to the military but was not adopted as there was little need for a more expensive cannon after the Civil War. Formerly owned by the Springfield Arsenal Artillery Collection LLC. Comes with some printed research material.
