The 1999 Proof Set began the State Quarters era. Each set contains the five State Quarters honoring Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. The 2000 Proof Set saw the number of coins increased once again. This year, the new Sacagawea Dollar debuted, pushing the total number of coins per set to ten. Each set contained five 2000 State Quarters honoring Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Virginia. The 2001 Proof Set the five State Quarters feature New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Kentucky. The packaging for the set was themed in blue. The 2002 Proof Set included the five State Quarters honoring Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi. These states were respectively the sixteenth to twentieth states to join the Union. The dollar, half dollar, dime, nickel, and cent were sealed in one plastic lens, with the five Quarters in a separate lens. These two lenses were placed together in a decorative cardboard box.
