Description
Purportedly removed from the waters in the area of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The chair is typical of White Star Line folding deck chairs, made of beech wood with caned seat and slat back. The upper rail has an incised five-pointed star, emblem of White Star Line ships. The base of the right arm is impressed 'Kaufmann Liverpool' after Kaufmann Brothers of Liverpool (1894-1916).
H. 33 3.4" L. 56" extended W. 22” from the exterior of one arm to the other
Provenance: This chair was originally gifted by a member of one of these retrieval vessels to Reverend George Ambrose and his wife, Almira Balcom, who lived at the corner of South and Robie Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The chair has been subsequently passed down through the family.
The underside of the right arm is impressed 'Kaufmann Liverpool' referring to a cabinet maker listed in Gore's Directory of 1911.

Condition
The chair remains in good condition, apart from some minor warping and splitting to the wood, as well as some minor restoration to the caning and slat.
