c. 1915 Teddy Roosevelt and Bear, Hand-Carved Wooden "Folk Art" Style Moving "push-pull" Toy, Choice Very Fine.
A rare, wonderful folksy handmade wooden moving "push-pull" Toy, in "Folk Art" Style, showing a Bear and a chubby top-hatted figure (Teddy Roosevelt) both wielding large hammers. Toy measuring 8.5" long x 6" tall. Worn from use, some traces of original paint remain, especially on Roosevelt's Top Hat and jacket. When the sections of wood on the bottom of the toy are pushed and pulled in opposite directions, the figures hammer the tree stump before them. The association between president Theodore Roosevelt and Bears (Teddy Bear) was very well known during the period.
