Scarce Directed "Front-Lighting" Tin Candle Lantern
c. 1750 Colonial to Revolutionary War Era, Custom Made Front-Lighting Directed Tin Candle Lantern, Very Fine.
This unusual and custom designed early American Tin Candle Lantern measures about 14" tall including its small round tin suspension loop at top, and is about 4.75" wide. This example has a typical punch pattern design in its body and on the conical top. Closed back Door opens and secures shut with a metal clasp. Possible carrying handle attachments on the back, with handle lacking and has a plastic replacement lens for the outer facing front-directed focused light within the specially crafted attached tin outer lens box. Overall, even in appearance with natural age patina. A large, specially crafted early lighting device.
