Uncommon biography of Abigail May Alcott Nieriker, sister of Louisa May Alcott, and basis for "Amy" in Little Women. May Alcott was an American artist, who studied in Paris, lived in Boston, Paris and London, achieved success as a painter and inclusion in the Paris Salon of 1877, married a Swiss merchant and violinist in 1878, and died shortly after the birth of her only child, Louisa May "Lulu" in 1879 (who was raised by Louisa May Alcott until her death). "To those who know her only as Louisa Alcott's youngest sister, the following extracts from her correspondence and from her mother's journal should prove of interest as outlining more clearly the sisterly relationship and casting a new light on a famous writer and her household; while to those readers who cherish a genuine affection for "Amy", her life-story will furnish the answer to the oft-formulated questions concerning the authentic history of the "artist" in "Little Women." ... It is the story of an artist's work early cut off, but of an artist whose influence still lives in the development of the art-life in her own land, an end for which she strove with unabated zeal." - Preface. First Edition, First Printing of this hard-to-find biography.
