A MANY-JEWELED STUPA RELIQUARY
Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century
The tahōtō shari yōki constructed of lacquered wood and bronze in the form of a single-story pagoda set on a rectangular stepped base and railing decorated in square inlays of mother-of-pearl alternating with gold-lacquer cloud patterns, the cylindrical housing fitted with four sets of double doors, two guardian figures painted on the interior of the front facing doors, the exterior lacquered in nashiji, the sloping tiled roof surmounted with a multi-tiered stupa topped with a sacred jewels supported by a lotus dais, from which chains lead down to the roof's corners, each corner with a pendant bell

Condition
Including, but not limited to the following:
One of the roof tile end pieces (the tubular part) on one of the corners is now lost. There is one more of the corner tiles separated at one corner (it is still present and can be easily re-attached).
The gold lacquer on the roof spire is discolored and with some old surface soiling and oxidation overall to the metalwork.
There is wear along the exterior edges of the rectangular platform and a few minor losses to the inlaid shell along the lowest tier of the platform. The paintings on the interior of the doors with some surface oxidation and discoloration. The circular bronze platform with discoloration, oxidation and some minor wear and associated minor loss to the gilding.
